Honorees

This Month’s Honorees:

Mrs. Willie Pearl Thornton (Mother of the Month) – Mrs. Willie Pearl Thornton (affectionately known as Miss Pearl) was born and raised in Lithonia, GA and has been a proud resident of Atlanta’s Pittsburgh Community for more than 50 years. She is a member of Saint Philip A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, GA, where she serves on the Mattie R. Griffin Stewardess Board, and the Missionary Board. She is a retiree of Atlanta Public Schools (28 years). She loves spending time with family and friends, and rarely meets a stranger. Miss Pearl enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, shopping (especially at thrift stores), making people laugh, and collecting antiques and quilts. She also likes wearing unique outfits and hats.

Howanda Walker (Volunteer of the Month) – Howanda is a native Floridian.  She moved to Atlanta in 1974.  Howanda was employed by AT&T for 30 years.  She is a member of Ben Hill United Methodist Church in Atlanta.

Howanda enjoys bowling, relaxing at a cabin in the mountains, walking along the beach and hearing the sounds of the waves from the ocean, and, listening to music.

Howanda is the sister of MOM Foundation, Inc.’s Vice President – Gloria Walker.  Their mom passed away in 2013.  Being a volunteer with the MOM Foundation, Inc. has been a blessing and a comfort for Howanda and Gloria – just seeing the smiles on the mothers’ faces is a form of healing.

It is Howanda’s prayer that God will continue to bless the Foundation, the members and volunteers, sponsors, and especially the Mothers who are served.

Howanda proudly supports the Miami Dolphins and the University of Florida Gators football teams.
